Happy Memorial Day Weekend & summer kick-off!! Are you guys excited because I know we are!? Well, before you check out for the weekend, here’s our latest roundup for {Eat. Shop. Play. Explore.} — enjoy!
Eat.
Memorial Day weekend means a BBQ is definitely in order. Check out our post on how to throw a simplified BBQ party – friends, burgers, lawn games and beer. What else could you need?!
Also to share, I needed something to beat the heat during last week’s heatwave — so in a jolt of overheated impulsiveness, I ordered this:
Popsicle molds. GENIUS. I sorta made up my own recipe, so here’s the Reader’s Digest version of it:
- 1 cup frozen fruit
- 1 1/2 cups juice of choice
:: Blend ingredients together in a blender, pour into molds, and freeze until firm. Release popsicles from mold by running under warm water. ::
Easy, right? I used strawberries, pineapple, and mango chunks, and added orange juice. Tasted amazing! Try it out

Last weekend, my husband and I had a little getaway in Brentwood for the morning. We biked from Santa Monica to the Brentwood Country Mart to grab a bite to eat and walk around. We split a breakfast burrito from Frida’s, which is located in the courtyard, and is O.M.G. delicious. There’s also a burger stand – Barney’s Burgers, fried chicken – Reddi Chick (which always has a line- it must be THAT good), ice cream, coffee, an adorable candy store and the Farmshop (where I want to spend way too much on cheese, wine and meat — it’s just that good. #oneday #butmaybenot). P.S. the food in the courtyard is super well-priced, nothing crazy
The stores on the other hand, are a little out of our price range; but we had such a great time simply walking around, “window shopping” if you will, and enjoying a delicious iced coffee on a warm sunny day in Brentwood. If you haven’t been, it’s definitely a cute area to eat, shop, play and explore (see what I did there?) — AND the perfect date spot. Also, every Sunday from 9a-2pm is the Brentwood Farmer’s Market!
Play.
Grab a picnic dinner (great DIY picnic recipe here!) and head over to Conejo Community Park for the first Concert in the Park of the season! {see details, as well as more summer concerts coming up, here} This concert is all about BeatleMania! Just, please: try not to stare at the 60-somethings crying and asking for autographs. Concerts start promptly at 5:00pm {Conejo Community Park, 1175 Hendrix Avenue, Thousand Oaks}

Some of us are going to Lake Nacimiento for Memorial Day Weekend and plan to make some fun stops on the drive up! Naci is one of our favorite getaways because it’s relatively close, great lake, campground and it’s surrounded by wineries. What more could you ask for?!?! The drive up is even part of the fun!
The first half of the drive is along the coast passing some of our fave spots like Carpinteria Beach (fave camp spot), Montecito (hello, Oprah lives here), Santa Barbara (enough said), Refugio Beach (fave camp spot )– and then you head inland to even more of the glory — Solvang (abelskivers!), Los Olivos (we can’t wait to check out Los Olivos General Store, if not this time, def in the next couple weeks! It’s an adorable wine market) and San Luis Obispo (trendy college town). So many great places in the northern 805! We have a lot to write about…
More pics and tips to come soon, especially as camping season is upon us! Our favorite time of year (other than Christmas of course!)!!
xx~
